The EX-tender is a solid state DC load center that completely replaces up to 7 small fuses in any DC electrical system. The EX-tender is good for a maximum of 30V DC, and a maximum of 20 amps of bus current. Each output terminal is current limited, using self resetting solid state current limiting devices known as PTC's. Like fuses, PTC's prevent electrical shorts from causing fires by "blowing"when overloaded. Like breakers, PTC's are not harmed by the overload, but simply reset themselves after the load is completely removed from them. Unlike a breaker, the PTC can never weld "on" and fail to protect the circuit. The extender has two independent buses on board. The A-BUS powers the terminals labeled A-1 through A-4, and the B-BUS powers terminals B-1 through B-3. The user simply connects unfused DC power to either or both BUS terminals, then connects the accessories to be powered to the output terminals. A variety of current levels have been provided to each terminal. The following terminal shows typical current ratings for each terminal:

If an output is tripped, the LED for that output will illuminate. The LED's are mounted on the back side of the PC board, allowing the board to be mounted on the back side of an instrument panel, and have the LED's protrude through the panel, while still having the terminal strip accessible. If a PTC is tripped, remove the load completely for about 15 seconds and it will reset.
